Have I become such a discriminating comedy nerd that I can laugh like an idiot for an hour at Jimmy Pardo at Crackers, a club I hate, then four days later, find myself wanting to leave Michael Ian Black’s show early at my favorite club in the world? It was just lazy comedy from someone I otherwise adore. Stand-up isn’t necessarily his wheelhouse, I suppose, but I’m disappointed just the same.
The crowd ate it up, though, and I’m happy for The Comedy Attic for having a sold-out weekend. Crowds like this should be there every weekend, because Jared and Dayna do it right.
There’s something to this that probably requires exploration. Stay tuned.

Michael Showalter opened when I saw him, and the difference between them was palpable. Everyone loved Ian Black, because he’s Michael Ian Black, but it was Showalter who made us laugh.
