A Musical Autobiography of Yours Truly: The Teen... →
Ms. snickr, because you asked so nicely, here’s yr mixtape.
Since I went a little nuts last night and went down the rabbit hole of late-’80s/early-’90s nostalgia, the stuff I listened to when I only had a radio and no money for cassettes, the songs they played over the loudspeakers at the public pool where I lived from open to close during the summer, the songs blaring...
Rob Delaney: I love Levon Helm and America →
robdelaney:
And whether you like it or not, (and you better get to liking it) you depend on me and your neighbor more than you do a pundit or a lobbyist or the CEO of BizKorp. And we depends on you. So let’s get some Golden Rule going up in this bitch.
I want to hug all the hugs.
God, you people don’t know what you’re in for tonight. Let’s see if I can get some of these 119 people following me to drop off. Shouldn’t be much of a challenge.
I feel tears wellin’ up cold and deep inside
Like my heart’s sprung...

The three best songs for strip clubs:
“Pour Some Sugar On Me”, Def Leppard
“Cherry Pie”, Warrant
“Bad Medicine”, Bon Jovi
Although I suppose an argument could be made for “Barely Breathing” by Duncan Sheik, but that might or might not have happened in 1996 and OH GOD NEVER MIND.
ADDENDUM: Whitesnake’s “Is This Love”. You...
Other songs that came out in 1990
“The Humpty Dance”, Digital Underground
“From A Distance”, Bette Midler

I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I...

If only. Some things just aren’t meant to be, or so I’ve surmised.
Johnny Paycheck — "Take This Job And Shove It" →
I’m sure I’ve linked this before, because, man, this job, but why wouldn’t I link the (overdubbed) version from “Dukes Of Hazzard”, which I distinctly remember watching during its broadcast on CBS at 8PM on Friday nights.

Finally watching The Rum Diary. Not sure how I feel about it. I mean, I love HST, but the book was a snooze.
Depp is predictably great, though, all Depps considered.
Also, don’t tell anybody, but I have a mad crush on snickr right about now.
I don’t know who tooted it first, but I’ve been thinking the last few hours about it. “Take a load off, Levon. Put the load right on me.”
If it weren’t for my pals Jessica and Ryan, I might’ve spent all night with two or three songs on repeat, mourning a man I never met.
Fuck cancer. Fuck it right in its eye.

snickr replied to your post: Pretty fucking sad about the news about Levon…
Cancer is always horrible and sad, but a life is considered in retrospect, right? If one uses their time well, then there’s nothing more anyone can hope for, and nothing to regret! :)
Indeed. I mean, fuck cancer; one of my closest friends is in the middle of her second bout with metastatic breast cancer, and...
Pretty fucking sad about the news about Levon Helm.
No joke. Just sad.
The Figgs' "The Day Gravity Stopped" is out! →
The hardest working power pop band in America, The Figgs, (one of four bands I’ve had the nerve to introduce by speaking words into a microphone on a stage in front of people) have released their latest gem, The Day Gravity Stopped, today, and if you don’t go buy it, you’re a jerk who hates music. The summer album of 2012 so far.
Available in the electronic format at Amazon for...
Letters of Note: He is called Mick Jagger →
“Anyways the guy on the station, he is called Mick Jagger and all the chicks and the boys meet every Saturday morning in the ‘Carousel’ some juke-joint well one morning in Jan I was walking past and decided to look him up. Everybody’s all over me I get invited to about 10 parties. Beside that Mick is the greatest R&B singer this side of the Atlantic and I don’t...
